I have an Acer Travelmate 4400, to cut a long story short I am now holding a replacement keyboard for it.

The problem: I don't know how to fit it and can't seem to find anything on the web to tell me how.

I think I have to go in from 'round the back' (ahem) I've removed the battery but before I start unscrewing things blindly was wondering if anyone had done this before :)

Thanks

To lift up the keyboard dont you normally have a few latches you have to push down at the bottom of the bottom line of keys which when pressed in allow you to lift the keyboard up

All i can say is when you do it with IBM laptop you have to remove the screws from the back then the board just pries off, if you got the keyboard from a famous auction website maybe you should contact the seller, maybe they got it off a laptop and might be able to help

hmm, I can't see any latches, judging from the replacement there are 2 screws holding it down under the cover at the top side of the keyboard.

I'm reading that some people unscrew part of the screen hinge when replacing the keyboard by mine has no screws and basically looks sealed! The onyl place I have screws is the base so thats probably my best bet.

I bought the laptop from new in the USA (hence not covered by warrenty and my need for this DIY)

Well.. no time like the pressent...(grabs screwdriver)...

well a bit of fiddling later and its done,

No screws round the back needed to be done, just tilt the screen open as far as possible then lift (pull off with worrying cracks) the plastic cover at the top of the keyboard (its all 1 piece).

Unscrew keyboard and lift out being carfull to correctly remove the ribbon tape from its clip (pull the 'handle' towards you then rotate up)

Reverse process for installing
