Replacing M54 cooling system fan

The Z3 vibrates like a vibratey thing on idle when I turn the AC on.
Apparently there's a small crack in one of the radiator fan blades, thereby causing an imbalance and making it vibrate loudly.

I forgot about the noise and didn't bring it into the bargaining process when I bought the car, and the boss man isn't prepared to pay anything towards it because I got 'too good a deal' already.

So they quoted something obscene to replace the whole jobby to which I said no thanks.
I've decided to go ahead and order a new fan blade, as it's only £30 or so, and just get that replaced. The main cost here seems to be the fan coupling, which is in excess of £100.
They said they'll give it a go, but there's no guarantee it will solve the problem.

So M54 boffins, was this a wise move?

I (probably) don't have the tools, plus there's a guarantee if it breaks, etc..

Ahh, you now have to hope they don't "decide" its something else that'll undo your saving!
