Replacing memory query

I'm a total noob at overclocking but I bought an overclocked PC (q6600 g0 @ 3.2GHz, ip35 pro) from OcUK about 2 1/2 years ago and it came with 4 x 1GB of Crucial Ballistix PC6400.

Am considering replacing the memory with just 2 x 2GB of same type of memory so I can possibly try and squeeze out a bit more speed some time. If I do so without changing overclocked settings would it cause any problems? i.e. should I set it back to factory settings before I do so?

If the new ram is the exact same speed and timings it should theoretically not cause a problem, in fact AFAIK less sticks of ram usually makes it easier to oc.
