Replacing Mk3 Mondeo Instrument Cluster?

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace the instrument cluster on my mk3 Mondeo, as the backlight on one of the displays has gone - as far as I'm aware, it's easier to replace the whole unit rather than the display.

My question is to do with the mileage on the car - as it's displayed on a digital display, where are the miles stored? On the ECU? Can I just connect a new instrument cluster and it'll display the correct figure, or is there another way it's done?

I believe it's stored in the cluster itself.. So you would need to get it corrected.

Both bulbs are dead in my mondeo too

and the one I had before..

It's a pain in the arse, only one of mine has gone!

One of mine has gone too. I'm going to take it all apart and have a bash at replacing the SMDs at some point

Aren't the dash modules coded to the car for security reasons?
