Sorry if I've missed this stickied somewhere.

I just got my conroe and a new motherboard in the post. I have read that you have to repair the Windows installation when you replace the motherboard in an XP system. However, I have also read that you can just uninstall the old motherboard drivers/processor/AGP/PCI etc. and then replace the motherboard/turn on the computer and it should boot into XP.

What are your personal experiences/recommendations?

If possible then it is better to do a fresh install completely.

Although I have done it by uninstalling all the motherboard resources, the replacing as you said and I didnt have any problems, but it can be a pain in the arse.

Well, a fresh install would obviously be the best idea, silky smooth etc. compared to this 2 year old install I am currently running, but it's not really an option given the amount of crap I would have to spend hours re-downloading and reinstalling.

I remember the last motherboard replacement the computer would do some funny act of refusing to respond after I left the computer idling for 20 minutes or so. I had to get round that by leaving a program running to keep it awake.

I'd like to just remove the motherboard/video card drivers and replace, so if it is possible as you say, that's great, thanks.
