I have an reasonably old laptop, one of these badboys

I want to run it as a second non-essential system, basically to fiddle around with it, possibly throw linux on there and see how it goes. The only problem is the jet engine fan on it. Right now I've got it set to "automatic" which will turn it on when it hits a certain temperature, so it's not a constant nuisance, however it would be better if it was silent.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in replacing a fan in one of these or something similar. Is it at all possible?

Cheers :)

Generic laptop, no telling really what's inside it. You'll usually find a 40mm or 60mm low profile fan in there somewhere. Easiest thing is to open it up, yank it out, replace :).

Be careful mind, some laptops can be fiddly things...

All of the panels that can be removed are fairly simple, unfortunately the main fan is contained within the main chassis, so it's going to be more difficult to get to :(

lol, I'm looking for a new laptop as my old one died. Looks exactly the same as the OP laptop.

Fan is pretty embarrasing, its not the type of thing i'd wanna take into a lecture.
