On a scale of 1 to 10, how easy is it to rip off and replace plasterboard on a stud wall?

I’m getting the boiler moved but am toying with the idea of putting new plaster board on the area that the boiler is being attached to, or whether to leave the existing plasterboard there and for the builder to replace the plasterboard around it. The reason I can’t get the builder to replace it all is that the boiler is being moved before the builder gets here.

Secondly, what type of plasterboard should I go for? Baseboard, wall board, plasterboard? Square edged, tapered edge. Ivory paper face? 9.5mm, 12.5mm? Like I said this will only be a small section, the rest of the room will be done by the builder several weeks later. I was thinking it’s probably best to match what the builder will use so just ask him…

Thanks Alex.

And another question.... is there any harm in laying plasterboard on top of existing plasterboard?

It seems incredibly lazy and a bit of a bodge, but it will be a damn sight easier and we'll only lose 12.5mm of room space. Any other down sides?
