My HP DV7 wont charge, I thought it was the powerpack again since my first one broke, but if you wiggle the connection into the laptop the charge light flashes. I have a feeling the power jack pin needs replaced, I have found a site that sells spares, but how hard are these to install? Any advice appreciated.

:)

Reasonably straight forward on these, a lot of screws in the base and under panels, remove hard drives and wifi card, then remove strip cover and keyboard, the thread wifi cables through top case, then unplug all connectors, remove screen panel and then separate top case and you can get to the socket, its on a cable so no soldering.

Also when you say charge light do you mean the light on the front or the one on the socket?

Thanks for the reply, will give it a shot.

There are 2 charge lights on the laptop, one on the front and one where the power cable connects, along from the dvd drive. Neither work.

Well the one on the side next to the dc in is just to show it's getting power, however the LED is very flaky on these so can go on/off when wiggled, best bet is to put a volt meter on the end of the dc cable when you've dismantled it and see if the volts drop when wiggled, if it's constant then it would suggest a motherboard fault. If it does drop then it's either the socket, or the charger tip, they can look ok but do burn out inside.

Thanks again for your reply. I have noticed the power light only flashes when there is no battery connected. If the battery is in there is no reaction from the light.
