hi all , i been having some problems with my system (cant install sp1 on vista and several bsods which point to memory) and have basically boiled it down to the ram. i have done windows ram diagnostics as well as memtest and both say its faulty so i bought a new kit.

usually i would just stick the ram in and carry on from there but im worried that ill still get probs if i dont reinstall... should i format/reset cmos/reinstall windows etc or would it be ok to just chuck the new stuff in and carry on?? is there any particular settings i should know about in bios?? im a fair bit out of touch with the newer gear thats out nowadays..

im replacing:

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
with
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2

my other system specs are

Quadro extreme QX6700 @ 2.67GHz
Asus striker extreme
2 x 150g raptors
2 x 8800 GTX 768MB (SLI)
SB X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS
Enermax Galaxy 1000W

surprisingly you would probably have less problems just chucking the 4 gigs of new stuff in rather than a fresh install, vista's installer doesnt like having 4gigs present

No need to do anything with Windows when changing memory.

But I would set the memory speed in BIOS to Auto before booting with the new memory for the first time.
