I guess this is an obvious question, but, can i just confirm i wont void any warranty if i strip off any generic past on the standard intel heatsink and replace with arctic silver?

or is the intel stuff good quality?

cheers

Intel stuff is more than adequate if you aren't overclocking.

Which you shouldn't be doing on stand heatsink :p

not according to all the sandybridge reviews i have read, which state that for "sensible" over clocking where you do not push your voltage, they run so cool the standard HS/fan is more than adequate.

however any other thoughts on this are wellcome.

cheers

If you do decide to change your CPU Cooler, its always handy to buy a spare tube of thermal paste , just incase you need to reseat the heatsink, MX4 does a good job.

Thanks guys

I have some artic silver lying around.

dissapointed with the cooler to be honest. The couple of reviews i read said the K cpus came with a fantastic stock cooler, however it seems intel pulled a bit of a dirty trick.

I have a decent artic cooler freezer pro but it is an earlier revision and is AMD only without any mounting parts for intel, which is a shame because if i could put the intel cooler on my AMD chip and vice versia i would. My amd chip is under vaulted and gives off almost no heat (i have had it running passive before now) so the freezer pro is huge overkill.

oh well, i may just wait and then treat myself to the 60quid ish water cooling setup when i swap out my mobo in april/may

cheers

M.

PS i think i have an unused retail Q6600 HS and Fan. my mate gave it me but i never even opened it. will this fit this chip or has the mounting points changes with the sandybridge?
