Hello all,

My second PC has died, so I'll be moving my main mobo and cpu over to the second and looking for a new mobo and CPU. Everything else is fine. Currently got an AMD Ryzen 1700x and Asus Crosshair VI mobo, with AMD Vega 64 GPU. Looking to run 2560x1440, with a new LG 27 850 freesync monitor. Any suggestions? Budget £5-600, but can go up or down if worth it.

How long usage life you're planning/are you intending to upgrade to 12 core (Zen3) later to keep same platform going as long as possible?

For just 8 core Zen2s MSI B450 Tomahawk would do fine.
In boards good for long usage with 12/16 cores Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite has pretty good feature set for the price.

In CPUs Ryzen 3700X is now bang per buck choise for gaming.

sell the 1700x and throw a 3600X in there

will cost you £80 to do and be a massive upgrade for gaming.

the 3700X is slower for gaming FYI even though it's more expensive.
