Hi all

Im in the middle of swapping out my motherboards in my Sandybridge machines for the B3 versions. Both PCs are in my sig.

Im wondering if you absolutely have to reinstall Windows 7 if you change your mb even if they are the same model? After installing the the Asus P67 pro it will show me the bios screen but wont boot into windows. All it shows is a blank screen with a flashing cursor

Im doing it as we speak so any help would be greatly appreciated :)

If it's the same Motherboard and Chipset then you should be fine. It's only when you change to a different model and/or chipset that problems can occur and hence why it's better to do a clean install in such cases.

Make sure you have seated the OS HDD in the same sata port it was in when you originally had it your other mobo. Failing that, boot to your windows 7 disk and try to run a startup repair.

Thanks for the quick reply philtorrens. Thats good to hear i hope i can get it working

Im not fussed about reinstalling Windows on my Asus PC but it took weeks to setup my other PC which has a ton of software on it and setup for multiple users.

Any ideas why im getting a blank screen after it posts?

Success and in record breaking time :D

For anyone reading this at a later date and wondering how it worked for me on my ASUS p67 PRO:

I changed my Bios settings to boot from cd/dvd
Ran a startup repair from the windows installer and let it find previous versions of windows.
Ran the first repair feature thing on the list. (it didn't detect any problems)
Clicked restart
Booted into windows :D
Didn't have to reactivate windows for some reason so all is well

Thanks for all the info lads it saved me a lot of hassle.

Dude, you need to stop giving me credit, I'm a half hour from leaving the office and if this keeps up I'll be stuck here for the night with my big head!

On a serious note tho, glad it got sorted for you, I know the pin of a full reinstall and having to download all updates for win 7 (especially on a 1Mbp/s connection :( )

I recently finished my first ever build and ran into a few probs, coudent use mouse or keyboard after bios.Tried everything before I eventually decided to try a fresh install and it sorted it.
