Anyone else do this when they upgrade?

About to get my self a GTX280 and i'm going to replay nearly all the graphically intense games i own.

I also feel it brings new life to the game as well.

For example i could run Fallout 3 maxed, but i had to reduce things like draw distance and so on, so with the upgrade i'll be able to max it out.

Kinda, games like crysis which was just a laggy versus pap looking mess for me would be awesome on a gtx280.

Unless i was going to go a from a 6800GT to a 4850 etc i wouldn't bother.

It would have to be a big upgrade for me to do that.

It's one of those ideas that's a bit more exciting on paper than it usually turns out to be in reality. For a game to be worth replaying, the chances are it'll be the gameplay that appeals to you more than the graphics. I've done it with a few games like Unreal and Max Payne, but replaying a game is inevitably not as much fun as the first time you played it, regardless of gfx settings.

For me it tends to be more a case of buying up older titles that I haven't played before on the cheap, and then enjoying them fully patched and maxed out - compared to the people who paid more money to get the game on release, complete with bugs and mediocre performance on the hardware of the time.

I'll do it if it's a game I haven't played for a couple of years. Went back and played Far Cry on my 8800 GT which was nice after playing on a 7800 before.

It's probably more a case of wanting to play the game again anyway, and having nicer graphics is a nice side effect.

Yep, I replayed Doom 3 on my 8800GT in all it's ultra high glory. 1st time round was on an Ati 9800 pro in 640x480, low settings, lol.

I do this, example was quake 4 - its amazing how good old games look and how many fps you can get and then you play a recent title and the graphics just dont seem to be jawdropping, especially for the decrease in fps

Quake 4
Farcry
Doom3
Need for speeds
FEAR

Well, i got a new PC, so gonig from tf2 all low and about 18fps to all high and tonnes of fps was pretty nice. I always said i was one of those "graphics don't REALLY matter in a game" before I got my new PC, with my new PC old games which my PC ran really bad, got a hell of a lot better (no loading times, no random lag when you turn a corner :p etc )

should have my new pc finished monday / tuesday with a 24" monitor instead of a normal 19"

going to play cod4 sp again through with high settings rather than mid - high @ 1280 x 1024 with an x1900xtx overclocked and an amd 64 x2 4400 @ 2.4ghz :p

new machine is a q9550, 4gb ram and 1gb 4870 :)

Only done this once and it was the sniper level in Cod4. Was playing on a x1600 mobility before then redid it on a 4850. Also supreme commander but that was because my laptop could not run it. :(

i played a fair bit of gta sa with max aa and af through nvidia cp......looked great
i dont normally play many games with aa and af though...usually too much of a fps hit.

I did, was completely happy with my 7800GT playing CS:S all maxed but i couldnt play TF2 maxed out. Crysis came out and i could only play it low/medium settings so i decided to get a GTX 260 and played it all max settings with 2xAA and it ran perfectly

I do it every time but only with what I call the Classics, I'm doing it on my 360 with my Forty an all
