I was sat in my car earlier when a driver drove past and hit my wing mirror but didn't stop, and has broken the rear casing. I've got the registration so what are the next steps? The damage is one thing but I'm more frustrated that they would be such a cheeky ****, she looked in the rear mirror as I beeped the horn at her and carried on.

Unfortunately, you'll give the police their reg and your statement, you'll get an incident number and that will be the end of it :(

Unless you got a witness, insurance won't do anything either. This is where dash cams are so valuable

She has 24 hours to report it. As advised I would report it to the police and let them chase her IF she doesn't report the incident. 9 times out of 10 they don't.

She could just turn around and say it wasn't her it must have been the car behind / in front of me! Unless she has damage too on her car!

Strictly speaking, it is 24 hours or as soon as practicable. ;)

Report it to the police, they will likely send you a self reporting form, you'll put everything on that and send it in and they'll send a S172 notice to the RK to identify the driver for failing to stop and for failing to report.

In interview she'll unquestionably lie and say she had no idea she did it and she didn't notice and they'll be insufficient evidence to prosecute. Same as most things. People just can't take responsibility for their actions any more and will lie, cheat and steal to get out of any trouble.

This happened to me ages ago, but it just wasn't worth persuing as i didn't even have a reg or anything.

I just sucked it up and bought a new wing mirror from ebay for £50 and fitted it myself in a couple of hours the next day

I figured that was more painless than faffing around with reporting it /trying to find the culprit.

Even though you have the reg, with no footage or witnesses i doubt you will get anywhere unfortunately : /.
