Got my Focus and with it one normal key (with colour code) and one with the locking/unlocking buttons.

I want to get a second unlocking/locking key. Ive read the Focus manual it seems to say that i can program any key with the unlocking/locking buttons on it. Have i read this right?

I went to the Ford garage and he told me they had to do it on their computer. (which would cost more)

Is he trying to con me? I.E. Can i just by a new unlocking/locking key and program it myself.

OK. Thanks.

With the standard key (no buttons) can i use it to get in and drive off straight away if the car is locked up by the button key? I.E. Do i have to do some funky key turning to turn the alarm/immboliser off?

I found that site too :)

I could always just buy one and see if i can get it to work.

Do you know if the 'blue' key can still start the car and turn off alarm/mobiliser if you lock it via the remote key?

So by what most are saying i can by an uncut key from somewhere like ebay for about half the cost of what i can buy one from Ford (I checked the prices out), then get it cut by Ford to the spec of my 'blue' key.

Then i can program it as per my Focus manual. Which involes putting the 'blue' key in the ignition, doing some fancy turning then pressing any one button on the new AND original remote keys.

Ill probably give Ford a ring 1st to make sure they will cut the ebay key before i buy one.

Ah, and does it has to have the same part number as my existing remote key?

Yes - there are several models.

Loads of high street key places can cut Ford keys - Timpsons etc.

OK. Even better. I like doing things diy.

All this really puts me off going to the Ford garage for anything. I knew i could program the key as i read it in the manual, but the Ford guy wasnt having it, he even went to ask his 'mate' who was probably a mop and bucket. Scam scam scam. They wanted nearly £100 to do it all.

Thanks.
