Repurpose phone point as network point

Difficult to see in those pictures but is that a plastic centre spine in the cable? If it is then the cable is probably Cat6.

Yeah they do have a plastic centre spine. Ah well, I go from what I thought was broken Cat5 to now having working Cat6!
