Hi guys,
Ive been having some strange issues with my PC and/or internet recently. First off my PC. Windows booted up extremely slowly the other week so I rebooted and it panicked and wiped my overclock settings. Then this week it was struggling again so I rebooted and windows stopped thinking it was genuine. I've sorted the windows license stuff and i have my overclock data somewhere but haven't re-implemented it, but thats the background.
Anyway, my internet had been a bit temperamental the last couple of days, but i had just bought something off steam when everything disconnected and my pc couldnt re-connect. I spent hours trying to get back on the network, resetting my router to factory defaults and rebuilding that network, only to discover that other PCs in the house had been managing to connect fine in that time. And i'd almost never gotten beyond the taskbar symbol showing "limited or no connectivity" and getting stuck "identifying" the network on mouse over; and that was when i could connect.
I thought it was my USB receiver, which has stopped working in the past, so i took it out and installed a receiver from our other PC (that could use the internet fine), but i was getting the exact same stuff happening. I figured it must be my PC. I ran virus scans but found nothing, and spybot found a handful of things but on deleting them nothing really changed.
Eventually i walked off for a while and when I came back my PC had connected and the internet was working, but extremely slowly in comparison to our other PC, and when I made a foolhardy attempt at downloading what i bought off steam it was fluctuating between maybe 5Kb/s and long periods of 0Kb/s before it finally got up some speed (~30Kb/s
) Which then caused my computer to drop the connection.
Today it is going slightly faster but i don't believe it is back to normal. Sorry for that essay, im pretty clueless on what the issue could be. I feel there's something wrong with my PC but i don't know how to check.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks guys
Bob
