Require info about Nvidia cards

Until recently, have kind of been working on the assumption that I will get Kepler, but I need to actually check that Nvidia cards will actually do what I want.

Now, I know some of this is an unknown quantity as Kepler isn't out, but might get an idea.

I have 2 screens, but I only use one at a time - they are on opposite sides of the room. One is 3D via HDMI and one is a high res Hazro via DVI-D.

I have currently got 2 presets set up with hot keys, which when pressed, disables one screen and enables the other. When the 3D monitor over HDMI is enabled, the HDMI output is set as default audio output, and then the Hazro is enabled sound goes through my Asus Xonar.

Is this something that is already easily implemented on current Nvidia cards, and will therefore likely be possible on new cards?

Edit: I know there was something else I wanted to know, but it escapes me right now.

Asking questions about Kepler won't really get you a reply mate because no one really knows. Until some one is allowed to speak out about them then it's all guess work.

They are rumoured to run surround on one card though, so that may be of help?

While I mention Kepler, I am actually asking about current cards - because if it's something they support now, it's almost certainly something they will support with new stuff. Especially as it's mostly software related.

Right now the software used for controlling monitors is a hack mate. It's a work around for WHDM (I think it's called that).

For example, Windows 7 can only see two screens. So when you run Surround or Eyefinity it basically botches your three monitors into two logical screens for Windows to stick together.

This is something AMD have apparently changed and fixed with the 7000 series but obviously I haven't connected up three screens to put it to the test. I know that Surround works in much the same way, so I would strongly imagine Nvidia are addressing that with Kepler and Maxwell.

He hasn't asked about surround.
He has only asked about using 2 monitors & if there is a hotkey to switch between them

I'm trying my best to explain how multiple monitors work on existing cards.

He mentioned Kepler.

Now obviously I don't have the exact answer to what he has asked, but hey, may as well put some interesting information forward.

Well, hopefully someone will come along who will run things in a similar manner to what I do who will have an answer :)

If not, I may just stick to AMD... again....

Not that I don't like them, but have not had an Nvidia setup for years now!

The AMD cards will be the cheaper ones soon IMO.

Nvidia cards have always been a tad more expensive. Now that AMD's fun seems to be coming to an end I think the prices will be a lot better within a month :)

Well taking into account how much have spent on PC in last while (some of which is just stop-gap, like CPU and GPU's) am only taking cost into consideration to a point.

One I got my Ivy CPU and decided which GPU's are going in, I want this system to stay as is for years.... perhaps as far as 2016.

Hopefully by that time I will be happy to completely drop pc gaming for consoles :)

Indeed. IMO as soon as a console comes along that can happily deliver 4XFSAA in every game without crapping its guts out I will make the switch.

I absolutely hate gaming without FSAA. I have a very keen set of eyes, and those jagged edges do my head in. My eyes are constantly distracted by the glistening and try and focus on everything that is doing it. The end result is a headache.

The problem is that thus far such a console has never existed :( I just hope M$ don't skimp on hardware.

Mind you, from what I'm hearing about the "720" I already don't want one.

No optical drive? means expensive games and competition all killed off in one swoop :(

I'm doing the same thing with my tv and hazro! Works great, audio switches automatically after you have set it one time. Hope that helps?

Yes Sir, thank you, that does help - and I see u r using 480's. Considering the price of all the recent GPU's am considering going 480's with custom coolers.

But I really, really , really do want to get myself pci-e 3 cards. OK, may not make huge diff at end of day, but is what I want :D
