right, i realise there are other posts out there similar to this, but after visiting http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/index.php?websiteLang=en and using thier PSU calculator im a bit unsure.

im looking to build something along the lines of:

Intel core i7 920 D0 @ 4.0GHZ
Prolimatech Megahalems cpu cooler
2 x Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM Slip Stream 120mm Fan (push / pull on cooler)
BFG GTX 295 (although i'v read all over i should w8 a bit)
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard
WD VelociRaptor 150GB
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 RAM
Antec 1200 case

after reading a lot of posts it seems people here recomend around an 850W PSU. but after visiting the Be-Quiet site (link above) and using their PSU calculator, it tells me i need a 1200W PSU.

any advice in this matter is much appriciated (also this will be my 1st self built PC)

well i would say a minimum of 680 watts but with that spec you would probably need 700 to 750 watts, it would be good if the PSU was modular too :)

yes i was planning on getting a modular one, as i dont fancy having to tie up any extra cables etc...
also i dont want to "skimp out" on a PSU if it turns out i need more power but at the same time it feels like PSU calculator i used just wants me to get the more expensive one.

is 750 really enough? and is 1200 extream over kill? (considering im not planning on getting a second graphics card)

1200 is definitely overkill i would say that 750 watts should be enough, and nvidia actually say that 680 is the minimum requirement

for a single GTX 295 you will need nothing more than 650 watts, the same applies for the GTX 300

I've just Googled ``what PSU for GTX 295``... in fact, you can get away with less than this...

i quote:- ``Considering overclocked i7/GTX295 rigs are pulling under 450w full load, you're not going to get near 550w.`` and i've read this often, you only have to have a big PSU if you're running dual cards...

i'm getting the Corsair 650 W

wow thanks guys, realy cleard that up for me :)
i'm now thinking of going for the Antec TruePower New Blue Modular 750W Power Supply...to go with my case...but so many of you saying corsair PSU.

now i know what watt (hehe) i can have a look which is better :P

thanks again.

Both the antec and corsair are equally good, but the corsair comes with a 7 year waranty and only costs £5 more, but the antec has blue led lights :D
