If I want to run 3 monitors (for productivity/office use - no gaming), will a simple card like a ATi 5450 do the job - it has a DVI, VGA and HDMI slot?

Any ati/amd card with a display port, then you'll need an active displayport-dvi adaptor.

on dvi+vga+hdmi you can only output two screens.

If you have a displayport equipped monitor, it should be okay. Check the specific model supports eyefinitry - I'm not sure if the low-end models do.

Something to consider: you dont need eyefinity to get 3 monitors. Each graphic card supports 2 monitors, so you can just get two very cheap graphic cards (or if your board supports onboard graphics, use that plus an extra graphic card).

Multiple monitors (2 per graphic card) have been supported for a long time, and if its just for office use, the cheapest possible graphic cards will suffice.

One thing to note on standard office use 3 screen setiups - sometimes you can find it very difficult to get the same colouring across three screens using different cabling methods.

I know this shouldnt make any difference, but the amount of times it has in real life I have lost count on.

If you can go DVI all the way across two cards
