I dont know when ill do it, but ill have to someday, may as plan now to upgrade my PC/replace it.

At the moment I have:

  • Case: Antec 1200 (Original so somewhat outdated and a tad broken where a washer has been lost from the main fan causing it to shake a bit...not too sure about that.)
  • Motherboard: Asus P5Q-Pro P45
  • CPU: Intel E8400 (No OC)
  • GPU: Nvidia GTX 260 (not sure what company it came from)
  • Mem: Pretty sure its an OCZ 800-1066 Mhz ram, 2GB each, not really sure.
  • Sound: Asus Xoner DX
  • Power: Corsair 650W (as far as I know)
  • HDD: Samsung HD322HJ (320GB~)
  • Monitor: Samsung LCD SM 2253 BW 22" (1680x1050)

Im currently looking at:

Total Price :- £625.96 inc VAT

I've only looked at those, since they are an obvious upgrade, suggestions and what not would be appreciated. :D

Also i did build my PC, so no need to suggest that :p.

I'm ultimately unsure if i should sell my computer to help with funds and all, so that's another avenue and i forgot to use my spending limit, I would love to keep it low around 700, though if i sell my computer not sure about how much that would get me...

I know ive never tried Overclocking (sense of destroying many hundreds of pounds, somewhat overpowering), but wouldn't an after market heatsink be better if i were to do that this time?

Yes, its just that you never had one in your first spec at all.

The stock item is good for around 4ghz.

What budget for a cooler have you got?

Im guessing over the top for the base clock >_> ?

Does it have mounts for socket 1156? or 1155? (1156 and 55 are identical)

Nothings over the top when you already have it.

Well the two that look the same on zalmans website says that they do, so i suppose a cooler is already ok, may need to get more Thermal compound though.

Small question, is the 1155 Cores "lesser" than the 1366 cores?

(even when OCed?)

The only difference i see is a larger Cache.

Ahh thank you, cleared that up...probably should have Googled it, mind you.

So if i do decide to perhaps go for another graphics card (SLI), i suppose i would need a larger Power supply?

(as in a future upgrade, would another 570 or maybe even a 6-- be OK ?)

For SLI GTX570's you need a 750W+ PSU.

Your current PSU is good for any single card setup (not sure about the ATi 6990, or GTX590 which are both two chips on one card)

In the future you can pick up a second hand GTX570 for sli with a PSU upgrade or just sell it for the latest thing.

Put a Ivybridge CPU in the motherboard when they are released next year and the board is the PCI-E3.0 compatible for the next gen graphic cards too, but they will also be backwards compatible anyways etc.

Ahh great, thanks for your advice and rather quick replies.

Im not sure if you helped me a few years ago, but even if you didn't. (looking at your join date >_> i feel silly)

Get the old parts in the members market so you dont get ripped off by the buyers like I read all the time.
