I've spent ages dabbling in the kitchen as an amateur cook and, in my mind at least, know the right sort of combinations for particular meats.

So this week, in preparation for my weekends dish (my next 'winter warmer'), I've been having pork every night, with a different combination of spices. It's a hard life I know, and perhaps I'm going overboard but four nights this week I will have had pork, a variying spice combination and a different sauce.

From where do I get recipe inspiration? Well from books, the internet and (as above) my experience, my father also taught me a lot about cooking meat.

I've read a lot up on the techniques for making pulled pork in an oven, and it may or may not work well (we shall see!).

So where do you get your inspirations/techniques? Do you simply follow established recipes and enjoy (or not as the case may be) the outcome or do you experiment a little?

You've been having pork every night and not sharing your secrets? :o

I get my inspiration from my dining experiences- I find that's one of the best ways to learn flavour combinations other than simple experimentation.

Eating other peoples food, online, blogs, magazines, TV, books. I've got a lovely book called the flavour thesaurus which is good for trying new combinations. Also foodpairing.com or whatever it's called. Then just experiment! I can often find that it won't come off exactly, then you adjust what you need to.
Sometimes you can just be way out, says me, which is also "fun"
