Reseat CPU?

Hey,

I have a H80 with stock fans hooked up, cleared up my airflow in my case, all that jazz. Overclocked to 4 ghz, and when testing first time round, got max temps of 75c with the fans plugged into the motherboard. Ambient temps about 25c-ish. After testing it was stable, plugged the fans into pump, tested again, got temps of 80c. Plugged back into motherboard, stuck at 80c. :S

Then I remembered when I was setting it up, I accidentaly used the LGA 2011 screws, realised my mistake *after* plonking the pump onto the cpu. Didn't have any paste, so I did best as I could, replaced the screws after taking of the pump (smeared the paste in the process a bit). And whacked the pump on with the correct screws.

So, uh:

1) Does anyone have any idea why my temps jumped at similar ambient temps?

2) Should I reseat?

3) Which paste should I use? I was thinking about pk-1.

4) Any fans that aren't so..loud?

1) what volts are u putting though?
2) maybe depending on 1)
3) iv used this with great results
4) i only use these they move a lot of air at low volts and are very quiet.

stock corsair fans are rubbish, trust me i have an h100 push pull with vipers ;)

Which CPU do you have?

I can recommend the AS5 paste myself, used it plenty of times. I think Arctic Cooling's MX-4 is the best one that's readily available though, it beats the AS5 by several degrees in tests I've seen.

As for fans, I've got a pair of Noctua NF-P12s on my H60. They're absolutely fantastic.

EDIT: Actually, OCUK does stock the IC Diamond paste, which supposedly is a bit better. Not sure if it's justifiable, but it's just a few pounds here and there.
