Reserator/ Custom Water Setup

I am currently setting up an EK Supreme/ Reserator loop on my q6600 but I know that a Reserator is not an overclockers water cooling unit.

How ever, the Reserator was free and it seems that if I set it up in a custom set up as the Reservoir, built a 3 fan swiftech rad into the roof of a Cosmos S and replaced the pump from the reserator wits a custom pump then curely a self cooled Reservoir along with a normal loop would work pretty well.

Right?

Am I missing something fundamental?

Sounds like you want to use the Reserator (but not its pump) /w a 2nd radiator in the roof of your case.

Sure, cant see myself why that wouldnt work. But I'll wait from the people who do proper water cooling to comment. I just have a Reserator, and can confirm it struggles when upping the v's on my 90mm amdx2 (similar tdp to your q6600).

Thanks Trickle, i just think that a self cooled res would be really good. I'd build a pump into my case and remove the reserator pump.

@ Sir-les-mp , For now i'll be experimenting but i'll let you know if i decide to sell up :)

The only reason i would buy the Reserator is for passive cooling - otherwise just go custom.

Well in the morning when my radiator was on the room was about 18-19C and the zalman was doing 26-28C. But ive now bought the fan that goes on top of it and that helps it keep it cooler for longer. I managed to get my temps down to 16-17C when i had the window open.
You should be alright, just dont leave it in the sun light cos it will get hot.
Ive never found my CPU temps going over 41-42 and that was on full load with a GPU in the loop. (8800GT)
it will handle those temps though no problem.

My reserator with Zalman ZM-WB5 at full load with my sig reaches 70deg centi with an ambient of around 25.My chip is not lap though.

A custom RES loop works well (I have one) if silence is more important that max clock (aka no extra vcore) - but not with a EK supreme, unless using a external pump.

Res with 35c ambient works for duel (with my room at 38c my [email protected] hit 59c load with CPU/NB/GPU/HHD blocks)
Not a good idea with a quad - but not tryed one in my loop since a B3 hit boiling point at 4x100% (70c with 3x100% but was a hot chip and did have NB and GPU in loop)
