Haven't paid for or picked it up yet, but I've read a lot of good stuff about it as an entry level DSLR. Comes with an 18-55mm Lens.

Would that be right?

£439 for a local pickup.

Should I be hesitating or should I just go get?

I can't say anything about Nikon as I'm a Canon user, but looking at the high street store beginning with J, you can get the D3100 with kit lens for £390 after £40 cashback from Nikon. Even without cashback, it's still only £430 brand new with warranty. You also get a little mini camcorder with it

Yes, I saw that offer (and have it reserved in addion to the reservation I've placed much more locally). Not really interested in the mini-recorder thing (look at the reviews!), but might make the effort to go and get it there instead depending on time later today.

£40 cashback is available on these cameras if purchased by 4th May.
