Hi guys,

Not sure if anybody here will be able to help me, but hopefully we have some server guru's here!

I have a Sun Fire x4170 Server, and I want to reset the ILOM password. I am able to access the web interface, but I do not know the password.

I've looked up how to do this and it says I need to access the preboot menu. Can anybody give me a hint on how to do this? I'm completely stuck as to how to do this. Do I connect a PC to the Serial management ethernet port and SSH in?

Cheers for any help.

Never used a Sun x86 server, but I've used many Sun SPARC boxes which I believe use very similar SP/iLOM's.

I'd be plugging a serial cable in.

Note that the serial management port is a serial connection, not Telnet or SSH. You need a terminal emulator running on the PC. I normally use PuTTY.

I think you then need to reset the SP and hit the locate button whilst the SP is starting up. There might also be a keystroke from memory. Sun's server docs are pretty good for this sort of thing and are usually freely available without MOS access.

Thanks for your help, I managed to reset it fine.

Used putty and the serial setting on putty... Never noticed it even had that function before!

Thanks for your help anyway! :)
