Resetting / restoring your Epson printer with an error

Hey guys,

I and nearly everyone i know, have an epson printer. And like me they regularly have to take it to their local epson service centre for a 'reset.' I had a look at my neighbour's rx420 today because it has a paper jam (no physical jam, its just what the printer is telling me…), and whilst i was there he rang his nearest service centre who told him it would probably just need a reset and that it would cost about £10. That's about the usual amount for a 'reset' – last year i had a mate who took back another model which was giving out a service error message only to be told by the engineer that it just needed its counter to be reset…

I'm fairly sure these epson service centre engineers are only using the scc utility that can be freely downloaded from the net, or something very similar – I'm almost certain I saw it running on an engineers test machine once, when I went in to collect mine. I've tried using scc before at home, but it hasn't worked work for me. I know of people who it has worked for, but i never know what I’m actually meant to be doing :(

Has anyone here had any experience of resetting their epson printer or knows of a cheaper way of getting it done than having to keep taking it back to an official epson agent each time?

Cheers!

Yeah, that's the app you can clear most (supported) epson faults with, but there's still something the service centres use to fully restore printers with and clear faults.

I ended up taking my neighbours printer in, and it turns out that on this occasion it was a mechanical fault, so there's probably not much I could have done anyway. It cost a fiver to sort out, which wasn't too bad.

I had a quick look on a few of the torrent sites to see if there was anything out there but it looks like epson are keeping it very closely guarded :)
