I bought this game and have installed/patched it up as normal = no problems.

So when I came to play the game I noticed I had a major problem, the controls! It looks like you need to use the numeric control pad ....

789
456
123

Something like the above which my keyboard does not have (A few modern keyboards don't have this as its not REALLY used that often). So my problem I'm having is that I cant change the control because this is clearly a cheap port from console as when I looked at changing the control it just gives you 2 options which were on the console port for the controller, it even mentions the joystick control system on there!!!

Does anyone know a way around this or do I need to buy a controller to play this game? And if so what controller should I get?

Again :mad::mad:

Kinda regret buying this PC version. I would be better off buying the PS2 copy and playing it on the PS3.

It's a poor port of the ps2 version, the cut scenes look terrible.

The 1.1 patch makes it look a lot better and there's some mods about that make it look better than the ps2 version.

I think in game looks almost as good with the 1.1 patch and the higher resolution, if not as good.

Also there is a video pack that replaces the videos with much better ones.

Yep the video cutscenes were re-encoded by someone so that they look a lot better. 1.29GB download but well worth it and only takes around 20 mins to do so as its a high speed link.

With those and some of the other mods RE4 PC looks much better than the PS2 version only the Gamecube ingame engine cutscenes are superior otherwise PC is the best version. There is also a fake HDR mod & loads of high res textures on this same website. You can even mod the game yourself.

Game is designed for gamepads but you can run: Setuptool.exe from the game folder to change the control scheme but this must be done before you launch the game. If you have a widescreen monitor you can also edit the following ini file as you wish if your res is not suported. setuptool.ini

I'm just going to buy the PS2 version. I really love the Resident Evil series but downloading massive files to watch videos better and to download a bunch of other mods to get the game to how it should look AND modify files to get the right res and control setup is just to much time when the game only has a few hours of play time.

I bought it to follow the story having played the first 3 all at release date, this was one particular game I missed out on as I was travelling for a few years. The plan was to play this through in preperation of Resident Evil 5 which looks amazing.

EDIT: I don't doubt you can get it looking good but why should I spend all this time doing what ubisoft should have done in the first place rather than a cheap port to the PC? I am really disapointed by that and will never buy a port-over again unless I do some research into it first and I know what I am getting for my money.

just popped in to say, when you do get it working it really is worth it. It's an awesome game:D
+1. Also:

Download these improved textures and the game is a lot better. Some fan extracted all the Gamecube textures then worked them into the PC version as well as imrpove some of the existing texture work. The results are very good.

Shame Capcom licenced the port to Ubisoft as they used some cheap team to get it done quickly rather than do the work properly.

RE4 PC is still the best version though after the mods (even the patch makes it a lot better).

Only takes less than an hour to get all the mods as well.

Yea but it shouldn't even take any extra time at all to get features and such that were meant to be a part of the game anyway. It's a downright farce that the game didn't even have its lighting system in at release, nor does it have the proper resolution videos or mouse-aim or even joypad support. Capcom recieved so much flak from RE4 PC that they now promise to do every single PC game port themselves instead of outsourcing it.

they are living up to that promise as well, if the pc version of DMC4 is anything to go by.

RE4 With Hires Textures + Fake HDR Mod

1920x1200 16xAF 24xAA on Vista 32 bit + ATI HD4850. PC looks a lot better than any other version once you apply the hires texture pack + Fake HDR mod. I agree you should not need to do anything but it is what it is at least the PC version can be improved!!

Even the PS2 upscaled via my PS3 looks poor compared to these shots. Understandable as the game is after all over 3 years old now.

I would say its worth getting the PC version and modding it. I had it on the PS2 and the first thing I noticed over the GC & PC versions wasnt the inferior gfx but the awful sound quality.

Apart from the hi-res texture pack and the official patch, both linked here, what else do I need to get the best out of this game?

Are there any other mods etc that I might benefit from?

Just paid £8 for this, hopefully it'll tide me over until RE5! I've played through 'Biohazard 4' once already, but I ended up selling it on eBay once I'd completed it.

I'll be using a 360 pad btw ;)

Cheers,

SW.

There are 100s of cool mods about. Skins, weapons, improved gunshot sounds, music the list is endless. You can even download a button pack to change the ingame gfx to match the 360 controller!

I just noticed they are even doing a ultra high res DX10 mod as well now:eek:

I cannot wait for PC RE5 so getting it on X360 this week but it will definately show up in a technically superior PC version before end of 2009 if you have to wait.
