Resigning during extended probation

My probationary period was extended a month, due to certain reasons which to be honest i had no grievances about.

I've hated the job since i started and been dreading going into work each day if i'm honest. I used the extended time to carry on my job search and it appears to have paid off :-)

Having recently attended an interview and been giving a verbal "you've got the job", awaiting formal confirmation....

My question is how much notice do i need to give my current employer?

My contract states the following:

"your appointment will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, in accordance with our customary practice. During this period, the period of notice will be one week for either party. Upon completion of the probationary period, the period of notice will be one month, for either party"

To me, thats a one week required as I'm still in my probation.....does every one agree??

One week.

Give them a letter stating when your leaving and that is ones week notice as per the contract you have signed.

Done :)

Good stuff !!

In honesty i do feel a bit bad, they've made some effort to help me along (not loads) but I've never fitted in.

Plus the new job is exactly the area i've been wanting to move into and a slight pay increase to boot :D

Not your fault, these things happen sadly :)

My reading would be that it's one week notice from either party. I don't think you should feel bad though, the company could equally use this option to terminate your contract with a weeks notice and I doubt they'd be feeling bad about using it pragmatically like that.

Don't worry about it, these things happen. What will you be doing in your new job? Oh, and congratulations. :)

sounds like it will be one week - if they've extended your probation then they're not going to be too fussed, sounds like you and your current job weren't necessarily a good fit. One thing though, get the new offer in writing first before you give your 1 week notice... just in case.

Agreed.

Employment is a two way street. You get paid to do a job. You do a job and get paid.

I often see people get emotionally invested in their jobs and feel obligated to do often extra work for little or no gain, or even feel guilty for requesting things they are perfectly entitled to.

No matter how good or bad things are, if you were bad at your job or not in favour, your company would have no qualms about getting rid of you. Always remember that.

Cheers, I'll be an IT Trainer...

So very true....Even though I've not been the best at it...i've often worked late for no extra....in a week i've rarely ever worked the standard 7.5 hr day...

The only reason for me feeling bad, is that maybe on some level i get the feelin that some individuals at the work place wanted me to succeed....had reviews and been developing a PDP to aid my development.

but yes, thats life....

There not the biggest company and resources are stretched....will be even worse with me not there....eitherway i'm sure they'll be able to replace me!
