Never played either, With 3 just announced.. Are they worth my time and money?

ps I enjoyed killzone 2

thanks in advance for your opinions :)

TBH both are kinda different Res 1 was more its own thing, Res 2 seemed more like a COD game with Aliens. I enjoyed both of them a lot, some prefer 2 some hate 2, as a whole package i thought 2 was better even though i prefered 1 single player.
The online part of Res 2 is good, the 8 player co-op mode was probably the best part of the whole game IMO had some games with the OCUK lot. I reckon you can get them both for less than £20 together. Must admit Res 2 has one heck of a cliff hanger and one i didnt see coming at all (please no spoilers)

Definitely worth the play for the price. They're both good in different ways. You'll be ready for 3 then which looks amazing.

lol, Cheers guys :)

Think ill defo keep a look out this weekend when in town for them cheap 2nd hand :)

Resistance 1 was somewhat overrated and overhyped, but it was very well-made at the same time. The last quarter of the game is still particularly stand-out for me (especially the alien architecture and the weather effects). Resistance 2 is much higher quality but it drags on a little too much. There's a lot of people who prefer the designs of the first game over its sequel (the health system, the weapons inventory system are two examples) but that's a marmite thing.

Neither are short games, which is a rarity in the genre.

RFoM is underhyped, often by people who only played the first few levels.

R2 had-

A painful 2 weapon system in a gun based game.
Less interesting weapons.
Very inconsistent graphics.
Unkillable enemies for no reason.
Poor squad AI.
Very bad enemy AI.
Enemies who would ignore your squad mates to get to you.
Enemies who would remain unscratched by ally fire.
Clipping errors.
Enemies getting stuck in geometry.
The weapon you had to use laying on the ground 5 feet in front of the fight removing any real free will.
A final boss who can be killed by the player walking in a circle infront of it and shooting a few light bulbs.
No story telling ability.
Fewer and less interesting enemy types.
Invisible enemies who will one hit kill you.
No co-op campaign mode.

Just to re-iterate a final boss that the player never even needs to actually look at to kill.

The only good thing in that whole game was the magnum.

Its been a long time since i played through that mess so i have probably forgotten a few things.

I borrowed and finished R2 last year when I first had my PS3. It was good but but not very memorable. Funny you should post this, I've had R1 on the shelf for months and finally got round to playing it earlier tonight. It seems ok to casually play through but nothing special. I got it for about £4. It depends how much free time you have, they both fall into that catergory of being good but there is always something much better.

I should b-able to find both for £20, might as well give them a crack :)

Got nothing else to play atm.

I enjoyed Resistance 1, i loved resistance 2. Unfortunately one of the things that made res2 shine for me was the coop which i imagine is now all but dead. The single player is still well worth a budget look, great weapons, great set pieces and some really cool moments. As Knives said it does drag a bit, but it's also a good 50% longer than most other FPS' so i wouldn't say that's a crime.

I loved Killzone 2 too if that's any help.

RFoM was an excellent game for me, maybe 9.5/10. Never really got into any previous FPS's on a console prior to RFoM. Tried to get into all the well known ones such as Halo 1&2 and GoldenEye but failed to keep any interest after a few levels.. RFoM on the other hand, had me hooked.

Didn't bother trying to get into the 2nd as I was well into COD4 by that time.

Resistance 1 was awesome.

I loved the storyline it really gripped me, which is quite an achievement since most storylines are so dull that i smash the buttons to skip cutscenes in most games.

The online was really cool too. I never picked up the second one, it's dirt cheap now though so i will.

I enjoyed both and would recommend them since you will be able to pick them up cheap, but resistance 1 definitly pulled me in more during the single player campaign.

I picked up Resistance 1 and 2 at the same time when i picked up a PS3 a few months ago, and played them one after the other.

I found Resistance 1 to be a nice long game, as others have said, it made a nice change to know you got good value for money waith so much content.

That being said, i found Resistance 2 allot less repetitive (not saying it wasn't mind) and far more polished. It felt like they had turned the action/cinematic parts up a notch.

I'd pick up both tbh, they can be had for peanuts now anyway.

quick update,

Went out yesterday and managed to pick both up for the princely sum of £10, I spent more on my takeaway :)

Been playing the first co-op with my mate. Ain't bad worth the £5 I paid. Will finish this one then start the 2nd :)

Thanks for the opinions guys.
