Resistance 2 is bigger, better, and broader--everything a stellar sequel should be. - Gamespot.com

Story Line

Picking up immediately where Resistance: Fall of Man concluded, Resistance 2 follows Nathan Hale as he finds himself once more in a world transformed by war and invasion. Undaunted by their defeat in London, the Chimera have continued to advance and are now poised to attack the United States. Entire cities have been leveled and communities annihilated. In this war where the odds are so heavily stacked against the human race, few are left who are willing and able to fight. Fortunately, Hale is not alone. A group of super soldiers known as the Sentinels will fight alongside Hale as they collectively attempt to thwart the inevitable.

Players will once again step into the war-torn boots of Nathan Hale, who not only faces near impossible odds on the battlefield, but also constantly struggles with the Chimeran virus raging inside his own body. In addition to an epic single-player campaign, Resistance 2 offers a truly unprecedented eight-player, class-based online co-op campaign with a separate, parallel storyline and 60-player online competitive multiplayer built upon a massive battles, greater intimacy mantra.

Reception

Pre-release reviews were extremely positive. The game has received a score of 9/10 from the Official UK PlayStation Magazine and a score of 9.5/10 and the Editor's Choice Award from IGN, praising the single and online multiplayer gameplay, the scale and detail of level design and the bosses that will "make your jaw drop". Gameplayer gave it 9/10. The game has received a score of 9.2/10 from NZGamer. Gamepro has given it a 4/5 saying that Resistance 2 is bigger, badder and better than the first, Resistance 2 improves upon the formula set by its predecessor in almost every way. X-Play gave it a 5/5

Video Reviews:

IGN said:
Resistance 2 is one of those games that manages to expand on its predecessor in every way. The single- player is epic in scope and in story, which is practically worth the price of admission by itself. Then you throw in the extremely engaging co-op and competitive play, which expands on replayability in just about every way possible. Toss in a generous number of unlockables, trophies and community support, and you've got a phenomenal experience. This is an exclusive that PS3 owners should be proud to have in their collection. Plus, if you're a fan of the franchise, making the decision to spend a little extra and pick up the figure, art book, Blu-ray and Wraith code will probably feel like a wise move.

Applause at a decent official first post ;). You did the same with LPB though

Even though I dont think consoles are the best breeding grounds for FPSs, Ive liked what Ive heard so far - got the beta last night so not tried it yet but all looks favourably :)

I might even do a sig - now that shows how good it is ;)

Good first post, I think it's your best yet :)

I wasn't amazed with what I saw of the beta, I will get the game at some point but it'll probably be in the new year. I'm more interested in the co-op aspect of it.

If im allowed to ;) I will give some first impressions when my USA Collectors edition comes early next week. Good opening post though robert as usual :)

In two minds about this one, on one hand I've recently just bought Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2 with Gears of War 2 due today so do I really need another FPS? Not to mention I personally thought the first one was very average with nothing setting it apart from any other FPS

On the other hand however for it to get 95% it must be something special and there are certain moments that look breathtaking....

If the Special Edition was available over here I'd get it in a heart beat but I reckon I'll proberly give this one a miss another everyone really goes crazy about it

We can do co op when i get my internet enabled next year :p

Tempted to import this, but having said that I've got plenty to be getting on with so could easily wait for the UK release.

Great stuff as always Robert. I'm eagerly anticipating this game after playing the beta down at a friend's house. I was really impressed by it, and how much it had improved since the first game.

For those that have it, how does the co-op work? Can we just drop in and out of games?

You can set an option when you set up the server, so yeah people can drop into the middle of a game if you allow them to do so. You can also do things like set it so only friends can join during a game, reserve slots for friends etc.

It's possibly the best online setup i've seen in a PS3 game.

Hmm, so does it change the difficulty when more players join? 8 player co-op just sounds like madness. Playing L4D with 3 other players is a lot to take in.
