Hi,

I have a electrical device which has failed, due to I think one of the resistors burning out (slight burn mark on the resistor).

How can I tell which resistor to get?

Do I have to look for some number on the device?

Thanks

How big is this electrical device.. if something like a resistor burns its usually down to a short circuit, id look for the problem first.

Can you tell the colours on the resistor?

high wattage resistors can burn out in things like crt tvs and amplifiers but as the other posters said - it is usually something else which causes a resistor to burn out.

Have a look on the circuit board to see if there is printed code next to it e.g. R123 would indicate that resistor refernce no. 123 is the device. All you need then is the circuit diagram / manual which lists the part.
