I wasn't to sure if this was supposed to be in this section or the monitor section so sorry if in wrong section.

Anyway. I currently game on a pretty crappy 19" 1440 x 900 Samsung monitor/tv thing. And I am quite capable of running the games I play on ultra settings . I have a hd 7850 not overclocked.

I would like to upgrade my monitor to something bigger and better. I want at least 23" display and 1080p. My question is how much of a performance drop will i see going from 1440 x 900 to 1080p. Will I loose a lot of frames? Will I see much of a resolution increase going from the one res to the other?

Thanks.

You shouldnt be too bad as that card has 2GB of VRAM which will help at a higher resolution, what games do you play? You may see a slight difference with games like battlefield/Far cry 3 etc.

Ok thanks. So is it more about VRAM rather than clock speed etc? At the moment I have only played hitman 5 and I'm currently playing bioshock infinite. But I am interested in bf3 and far cry 3. I like playing on ultra and I don't want to upgrade monitor for a few extra pixels if I can't see much of a difference and I loose much performance.

To a degree, yes, but you also need the GPU grunt to drive the resolution. The 7850 is a capable card and should run 1080p happily with good settings in most titles, although you'll probably have to sacrifice some MSAA to achieve "playable" FPS in more demanding titles.
