resolution issue help please!

Hello.

Recently built a htpc (specs in Sig)
Tv model LG razor frame 550
home cinema is a LG bluray 1100watt

HTPC > bluray > tv

The problem I am having is it won't change to 720hd res or even 1080.
It's currently at 1024*768.

Is there anything I can do to get it to change. If I change it to any other res. It either dosnt fit to the screen or is mega blury.

Here is a full spec list of my tv.

Any helpnwould be appreciated.

You wont get 1080p as the TV wont go high enough, 1080p is 1920 x 1080 yours from the spec above is 1365 x 768.

You should be able to-do 720p.

But you will need to adjust the overscan settings in your gpu software, also I would connected straight to the TV.

Hi, ok thank you. Would I get better sound quality if going direct to tv, as the tv is connected to bluray via optical cable.

Also. Is that the reason I cant get 720 because I'm going via bluray?

Also. What do I need to look for in and control panel for overscan ?
My tv had an overscan option is that the same thing ?

Hi. The highest resolution I can choose is 1920*1080 and yes I'm using hdmi, I will try connecting direct see if that changes anything.

If you play with this setting then it should be able to make the picture fit properly onto the TV.

I have looked and cannot see that setting :( and if it fits it will still be blury won't it ?

Sometimes the blurriness can be affected due to the picture actually being slightly bigger than what can be displayed. A reason why they do this can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/hd-101-overscan-and-why-all-tvs-do-it/

I would try again with the HTPC connected directly to the TV anyway in case it could be the home theater system affecting it.

Also. I have got it connected direct to tv at the moment.
I cannset it to 720 now and it sort of looks ok but txt is a bit blury. I'm gna have a play with some settings see if I can get it right.

I'm gna have Todo all this again in 2 months cos im getting a bigger tv lol
 
Hey. Havnt managed to get it to 720. It just dodnt look right.

Is there a driver for the tv or monitor for windows ? Mine atm is generic pnp monitor ? Should it be plug and play?

Any other suggestions would be great :)

I have tried setting to custom resolution and tried all in the list and the only one that seems to work is the 1024*768.

It says my native resolution is 1365*768 but I can't even set it to that ...

Propper blagging my head now lol.

No matter what I do. Or what ever res I select it looks crap :(

Is there any updates for drivers ext for tv's?

Also. I found overscan and that didn't do much either lol
 
I think I will just leave it at 1024*768 for now because I'm upgrading to a 60 full hd end of next month so that should be ok.

Appriciate all the help and suggestions and if I do figure out how toget 720 working right I will let you know.

I used to have it setup that way on my old system last year, bt I found that the sound quality wasn't that good, and surround sound works better using the gpu and hdmi !

movies still look ok at 1024*768 so its not all bad lol

oh yea, hears a question for you, how come I can play games in 720hd and that looks perfectly fine ?
but desktop at 720hd looks crap.
