Resolution problem help needed.

I'm posting this for a friend so I don't have all the details.

Recently he purchase a viewsonic vx922 19" monitor and he runs the monitor resolution in 1280x1024. He can't really run it lower because the monitor pesters him with messages to change it to 1280x1024 for optimal viewing.

He runs games in particular Counter-Strike in 1024x768. This runs in a window, not an actual explorer window but just as a video on his desktop the size of 1024x768. Obviously he wants it in full screen.

Graphics card is a nvidia GeForce 6800.

Weeeeeeeeeeird. What does it say in the Digital Flat Panel Settings? [Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->*Graphics card name*->nView Display Settings->Device Settings->Device Adjustments]. Try altering it to a different option (experiment, see what you like).

If that fails then try changing drivers.
