You know how the best resolution on 17" and 20" monitors is 1024 x 768, well whats the best resolution for 24"? Thanks!

In the case of 24" screens it's 1920 x 1200

BTW the best resolution for 20" 4:3 screens is 1600 x 1200 or 1680 x 1050 for ws

To go further, most 17" monitors are best at 1280x1024 and most new 20" monitors are 1680x1050.

I mean the settings in windows for the resolutions. I tried 1920 but i dont really like everything that small.

Why not run at native res and use high DPI fonts and large icons?

Monitor will only look its best at native resolution. Surprised you find everything too small at 1920 res as everything is all pro rata. Icons and text should look the same as 1024 x 768 did on your 17" screen......only you'll have a bigger screen

As Billy says, use large icons and large fonts if you think it's all too small. This is better than running in non nativ res IMO.

Makes me wonder why some people buy bigger monitors.......

i just cant deal with anything under 1280x1024 anymore.

im desperate to get a widescreen to get a better resolution.

running at anything other than native ruins the image quality of the monitor as its stretching the resolution

Resolution

The resolution of a TFT is an important thing to consider. All TFT’s have a certain number of pixels making up their liquid crystal matrix, and so each TFT has a “native resolution” which matches this number. It is always advisable to run the TFT at its native resolution as this is what it is designed to run at and the image does not need to be stretched across the pixels. This helps keep the image at its most clear and at optimum sharpness. Some screens are better than others at running below the native resolution (see the interpolation section). You cannot run a TFT at a resolution of above its native resolution. Make sure your graphics card can support the desired resolution of the screen you are choosing, and based on your uses. If you are a gamer, you may want to consider whether your graphics card can support the resolutions you will want to use to power your screen.

Okay fine, thanks for that little guide. Iv set my 24" monitor to 1920 x 1200, iv applied DPI (it has very much improved the fonts) but how do i make the icons larger?

If using xp, right click destop, select properties then appearance tab then click on the effects button and then tick the box which says "use large icons"

If using Vista, somebody else will have to help you out or try searching the help files for "icon size"

Have fun with your screen, I'm sure you will get used to it and get a lot of pleasure from it.

hey thanks for that, I have enabled DPI to 120, and the fonts have indeed gone big and more readable. But icons in the system tray i.e. msn messenger icon buddy has gone fuzzy.
