Got to do a swapover on the A303 tomorrow at a location yet to be decided but somewhere between Honiton and Yeovil.

Can anyone recommend a decent eating house on or not too far off piste where we can feed and water Mother in law?

Our favoured spot, an American style diner called Route 303, is, alas, no more.

Aside from the BK/McDonald's at Horton Cross/Ilminster there isn't really much that is kind of half-way, there's a few decent-ish places at either end.

There was also a nice pub called The Eagle on the single carriageway section over the Blackdown Hills but it is now an Italian. Which is fine but M-i-L is a meat and 2 veg kind of gal.

Yes, will probably plump for something the Honiton end rather than risking the culinary horrors to be found on the tables of Yeovil and its environs.

Yes

I once spent 2 weeks at the Days Inn at Fleet Services at the start of a gig at the AA in Basingstoke.

My diet was courtesy of the Wild Bean Cafe apart from Tuedays when they did a mean lamb shank in the cafeteria.

I think Fleet Services elicits slightly different emotions from me

Yes

There are a few inns, etc. just off the road but I've never had any reason to visit them so no idea what they are like.

KFC at Solstice. Never great but always reliably average.

I dare you to try the one at Wincanton, 4 out of 5 people I know who've used it recently have been ill afterwards :s

EDIT: Looks like the reviews for the one at Solstice aren't any better, seems like KFC has really gone downhill these days.

I'm down visiting my parents in Wincanton in a couple weeks time so I'll have to check it out!

I used to work at a couple Little Chefs along the A303 during my youth, although unfortunately they're no longer there. The one in Sparkford is now an American themed diner called Mattia Diner, but I've got no idea what it's like. Hunters Lodge, just off the A303 east of Wincanton has been decent when I've been though.

Yep, both of those places are good. There's also The Wagtail right on the 3-zero-3 which is a Chef & Brewer type of place.

Always worth straying a bit further when in that neck of the woods though as there's a wealth of good eateries. Top of my list being the White Lion at Bourton which does great beer and food as well as retaining the rustic charm of a Dorset (only just!) country pub.

Wrong way for this trip but it's always Taco Bell for me when I stop at Solstice
Random heads up for Solstice now, the Toby Carvery have Euro Car Parks managing their parking now, so don't go in there to park if you aren't eating there! Not sure if any of the other places like Pizza Hut do as well.

Fast food in service stations has always been a bit ropey imo

That I've found can depend on location location location.
Travel up the M1 and you will be served **** by those who couldn't spell franchise, but travel up the M40 and you will be shown many delights.

I see OP has been jailed and will be unable to make that journey now :D
