Hi there,

Been out of the loop on pc's for a while since i broke the bank on my first ever made pc so a bit rusty on attmepting to fix it  . Hence ive come to you lot for help

Anyway my problem happened this morning when i turned the pc on, i left it and went out to go for my run but when i got back all i found was that the pc kept restarting itself as soon as it had got onto the windows xp loading screen, about 4 of the loading bars passed before it restarts itself.

Since at least the end of december i have done absolutely no tampering with the pc and it has been working perfectly (not overclocked at all).

My only slight concern is that about 3 weeks ago i had a power cut during a macafee update, since then it has attempted to update but comes up with an error. During this error a clicking noise can be heard which, so ive heard could mean my hard drive is attempting to destructively deplatter itself. However it is only during the update, which ive never bothered to sort out does this clicking noise appear. Never at any other time and appears to function fine.

I was going to attempt a format but am really reluctant to do it because on my fm2007 game im in 2014 with colchester and have the likes of david villa and lionel messi in my team (yes very sad i know but am proud of it :) ) Also i have pictures etc and my music collection that is not backed up, it would be anightmare trying to replace all this. Oh and erm theres some work thats not backed up :o, not as important as my fm game though lol

My specs are in my signiture (i hope, any overclocking in the signature was put to default in december). Have tried to explain the problem as best as possible but if im missing anything please tell me and ill reply asap,

Thank you very much in advance,

Andy

could you afford a new hdd to put windows on then recover all your things from the hdd

id say it needs a fresh install so that would probably be your best option even if you got a 20gb one from ebay it would be fine

Have you got memtest? I had the exact same problem, a never ending restart loop with windows XP. Anyways I ran memtest and wam! thousonds of errors, very random as the night before I was playing games on it. Anyway give it a go. Its most probably either the HDD or you memory.

I have two hdds nowadays, where I keep all my important data on one and windows on the other, making formats simple.

But before I did, I use to burn the guff I want onto CD, format, and when you reinstall windows, lob it back on. Works a dream, can you not do that?

Like Paul says, I think a good formatting will sort it... I format my PC every 6 months at least, Im a OCDer when it comes to things like that :)

And how much you paying David Villa to be at Colchester  ... not to mention Messi! Barcelona, Colchester, Barcalona, Colchester??? Must have been a nightmare decision for him :D

Hi again,

Ive managed to fix my previous problem, a mate recommended using the chkdsk /p on the repair cd and this worked beautifully and i was able to get my computer back working.

Ive managed to back up my files and everything, got a spare hd from ebay on ** guys recommendations so everything safe, cheers :) .

Would recomend that to anyone with a similar problem.

However got another problem :(. I dont want to quite resort to a full format yet so were wondering if you of you kind people had any suggestions.

Whats has happened is that apparently ive suffered a "Blue Screen of Death"

The technical information i will list below which means absolutely nothing to m lol.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000004,0x00000002,0x00000000,0xF71CB04B)
nvata.sys - Address F71CB04B base at F71B8000, Datesap 444d72c9

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Andy
