restart help needed plz

Hi everyone,
This is really probably an easy fix its just one I haven't came across before.

I put in a new cooler and hard drive and took mobo out so I could do the cooler easier, (well I thought so at the time).

I set it all back up with new cooler on, ditched old hard drive too and installed new one then did fresh install on windows 8.

Put in drivers etc and everything runs great apart from two things.

If I power on it goes to windows 8 as usual, however if I do restart, like from updates, it powers down like normal, then restarts but never reaches the windows 8 screen, it just remains black screen. Weird to say the least.

Also if I play skyrim it does the video bit with no problem but then goes white screen. It worked fine before btw. I did have to download my games again from steam if that matters.

Warcraft works fine though

Any ideas?

any chance you could use the old hard drive to see if that powers up/down ok ?

whats the rest of the setup, cpu/mobo/psu/gfx card etc.

I did a "windows 8 restart & update" the other day and it just froze with the center loading icon right on the left of the screen. Did a hard reset, and everything was fine. Updates seem to cause a couple issues when restarting, however a reset does the trick just fine.

Thanks for the help lads, it seems to have corrected itself. The white screen doesn't happen any more and it now restarts just fine.

Its strange how it would power up and down great but hang on restart. The white screen in skyrim was also a mystery.

All I can think, is that maybe one of the updates messed with a driver or two and then the drivers sorted themselves out, or windows did. Who knows.
