Hi all,

I have a Netgear DG834G router, and at 00:00 every day the net loses connection for a second, without fail every day! I have checked the Schedule and Firewall Rules to see if anything is set, for why it reboots. Well im not sure if it is rebooting or it might be pipex or simular?

Any ideas? :(

How long is the internet connection down for? Looking in the logs you'll see if the router has restarted or if it has had to re-establish the internet connection.

Firmware updates are always worth a try.

5 seconds isn't long enough for the router to reboot, and I'd be doubtful that it could re-establish a dropped connection that quickly.

What does the router log show? Also, does it happen for all PC's connected to the router, or just one?

I get this too and im got a DG834GT. Im on BT Broadband so wonder if its anything to do with BT. What ISP you on with?

Funny thing, my mate has the DG834T and every night at dead on midnight, his msn logs in. I wonder if he has the same problem.

Hi guys,

I have an NG843 v2 modem/router and the same happens to me since i got it, everynight spot on 12am or 1am depending on the british summer time etc... I lose connection for about 5 to 10 secs. The modem doesn't reboot, just loses sync for that short period of time.

I have currently just updated the firmware from 2 (something) to V3.01.25 i haven't been checkin to see if i lose sync although i can't really say i've been looking or at the PC at that time. But i'll certainly keep an eye open tonight for it and let ya know.

Personally i quite like this firmware revision, gained an extra 5k (wow i know lol) from adsl speed test.

EDIT: As Jokester was asking, im on a static IP.

P.S. Handy to make sure you grab the recovery tool aswell just incase something untoward happens (from looking at the firmare upgrades, there is only a recovery tool for the 834 and 843G not for GT)

Yup, I have the same thing with my 834GT.

Every night it loses the connection for a few seconds. But while you lot appear to have it just once, mine seems to keep doing it all night from what the log shows.

It stays connected all day long when the wife uses it during the day, and all evening, but suffers the same problem late every night.

I'm on a static IP.

Is it possibly something to do with the NTP resetting the router and causing the connection to drop briefly?

The firewall restarting at midnight is mentioned. Maybe a firmware update will cure the problem.

Ah, yes, I remember now. I messed about with my DG834G to get SNMP running and to do that I had to put the router into debug mode, telnet in then manually change the iptables config. At midnight the thing would always reset itself.

That has been the case since the initial firmware and I'm sure I read on the Netgear forums that it was intentional and was going to remain.

Having said that, I never had the problem that has been mentioned in this thread.

Yep, that's the reason I came across that site. But it doesn't seem to happen with the older 1.04.01 firmware. But that doesn't support SNMP.
