Restarting Games Half Way Through After a Break

Do any of you guys restart games that you're part way through after you've taken a break from them for a while? I'm 33% through GTA 5 and haven't played it since November. I can barely remember the story at the mo and have put 21 hours into it and am considering a restart. I always feel like a should give a game the attention it deserves so will often restart in these situations to get back into the "flow" of the game, so to speak.

I did the same thing with Mass Effect and never completed that in the end, and the same again with GTA 4, but restarted that twice!

I restarted The Last Of Us after a break when I was about a quarter of the way through, but was really glad that I did as the experience was immense from start to finish and I don't think it would have been as good with a big break.

I don't have as much time as if like to play games, but I like to make the best of them, though I'm not the kind of person to have to achieve 100% complete though. Could never be bothered with that.

The daft thing is I have Red Dead Redemption half done on PS3, and AC3 and Hitman on PC. Can't ever seeing me completing those though. Suppose I just like a bit of variety eh.

Strange habit, I know, but anyone else do this?

All the time , haven't completed a game in years , gone back to mass effect well lost count now haven't got a clue about the storyline lol , that's why i only buy games £5 or less i just get bored so quick

Took me 3 years to compete Mass Effect 2, each time it would take about 30 mins to get my bearings but no not ever tempted to restart.

If I got more than say an hour into the game, I always carry on where I left off if I still have my savegame (which I have a minor OCD about retaining across multiple PC builds). Some examples:

-Halfife, took a 2.5 year break on the "On a Rail" level
-GTA3, 6 year break toward the end of the second island (was weird, I was stuck on this mission but it didn't seem that hard when I went back to it?)
-GTA:SA, can't remember exactly but was a couple of years break towards the end

Only games I might be a bit wary of would be RPGs where being able to remember the story, party skills etc is fairly fundamental.
I did restart Mass Effect when returning a couple of years later, but that was because first time around I'd just done the initial section on the Normandy and hadn't finished the first 'away mission'.

Ha yeah. A trip to cex or a steam sale usually puts the brakes on anything. Plus the first half of games can be a bit slow too. Especially your gta's and mass effect type affairs, which means you don't get the best experience. Very odd behaviour!

Unless I've broken off right at the end I tend to re-start. TBH I'd rather push on and finish what I'm doing than break off unless the new title is particularly appealing.

I restart all the time. It's a pretty annoying habit tbh but I can't shake it!
I also have a very annoying habit of starting a game and then stopping as I've wanted to play through the entire series first. Usually get bored pretty quick and the new game doesn't get played for a while :/

Depends on the game and how far I've got though it.

Sometimes I'll say tt again because I've basically forgotten how to play a particular game. Other times I can just carry on as if I hadn't had a break at all.

It can depend on how good the game is as well. If it's not a great game then I more tempted just to carry on from my last save. Who wants to play through mediocre games more than you have to?

If I do forget whats be going on story wise, it only takes about 20-30mins to pick up the controls again and story soon becomes clear.

Maybe for games if you've not played it for lets say a week it'll automatically do a "previously on GTA5" then a brief catch up lol..

It depends on the game for me.

If it's an average game or something I'm just not interested in, I may not even go back to finish it. If it's a good game but lacks in story I'll probably just continue where from I left off as there won't be much to remember. If it's a heavy story game I'd restart it.. example being Alan Wake, when I did that the first time I got about 30% through it then stopped. Few months later I went back but restarted it as I had forgot the story.

Depends entirely on the game.

Easiest ones to say 'yes' to are the likes of The Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3, etc. That is partly because all the installed mods are probably out of date so its easiest to just wipe everything and start from scratch.

Otherwise it depends on whether I really wanna get back into it or whether I just want to say I've completed it. Generally down to forgetting the controls.

I've been doing this for years now, due to owning too many games via Steam i just take one look and cba to play anything.

Same for consoles! Seem to have grown out of gaming..

Saying that still in to my city building/strategy games on and off

Normally no, for example I a continuing with far cry at the moment after a break of at least a year. Was probably about 25 % complete. Sometimes I am tempted when I can't remember the control system.

This was my flaw in Skyrim... I still have NEVER completed it regardless of putting hundreds of hours in on the 360 and now the PC.

I just get to a point where I put the game down for a while. Then when I pick it up I start a whole new character. I would easily start a new one tonight if I could be bothered to reinstall and mod it. But I won't as I know by the 10 hour mark, I just put it down and move onto something else.

Rarely, I prefer to plough through a game normally. I did abandon my UVHM run of Borderlands 2 because it was not fun (the normal game was great fun). Apparently you have to do lots of grinding and replaying the same levels over and over until you randomly get guns good enough to play it! There’s too many good games out for me to be doing that but I probably will go back to replay the normal game as different characters because it’s such a great game. I recall that when I was playing it, I didn’t play anything else.

Which of these should I start fresh on and not play anything else (bar MP games like BF4) until its complete?

Borderlands 2
Castlevania Lords of Shadow
Dark Souls
Dishonored
Dragon Age Origins
Hitman Absolution
Mass Effect (trilogy)
Skyrim
Splinter Cell Conviction
