Hi all, I recently got an MSI Sky 580 USB TV Card, picture is great, records fine etc, but after a couple of hours of running TV my PC Will reboot, it also will reboot frequently when watching Home and Away (Chanel 5 :p) And when recording (IE No TV is on screen at the time) If I feel the card its always very hot, but im told this is normal for the thing.

I run media center ,and the reboot is always When media center is running, and its using TV.

IE Ehrec.exe is recording something, or Media Center is running TV.

This is kind of doing my head in, 5 mins before the end of something "REBOOT" and I miss the end, recording a film, and right near the end my PC has rebooted.

Odly enough, I have left my PC on 2 weekends in a row to record stuff, and came back and the PC had not rebooted, But when I try to record home and away in the week, the PC will hapily reboot while im out, But when im not using it at the weekend.... nothing...

So any help would be greatly apreciated... Im tempted to purchase a PCI TV Card to replace it, but I want to be sure whats causing the problem before I do...

Thanks for any help, Jcb33

whats ** specs jcb?

did the restarting only occur after the addition of the tvcard?

restarting could be due RAM or PSU....

Have you made sure your RAM is in the correct slots? sorry but had to ask...

Have you tested RAM using memtest?

need to find out more about specs etc etc

Specs:

X2 4800+
Asus Crossfire Delux Motherboard
2GB PC3200 OCZ Ram
Enermax PSU (Dunno what Wattage)
ATI X1900XTX 512MB
2x 300GB SATA HDD's

Think that covers it....

Yes, Restarting only started after the install of the TV Card, and does not occure if I remove it, E.G I was playing a game last night my pc rebooted, I took the TV Card out and played for about 4 more hours without any problems at all.

Ram has been in the correct slots since It was built in April

Yes I ran mem test for about 6 hours last night, 0 Errors :)

Enermax PSU (Dunno what Wattage)

my money is on the PSU....find out the wattage, its the only way you can erradicate it...

if its new (how new??) some of them are faulty apparently recently like the really new 620w ones....

As I said the PC Has been built since April, Just took the case panel off and its a 600W one

in that case as its a 600w psu it hard to imagine there is not enough power...

altho it depends on the volt rails of the psu...

get speed fan and tell us the volt rails without the tv card in the system...

perhaps someone who knows about volt rails will be able to elborate..

it could just be that your board does not like the tv card as it works fine without it...

thanks

Ok, When it reboots, windows always flags up an error message "The system has recovered from a serious error."

Error signature:
BCCode : 1000007e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : F63A33E3 BCP3 : F78E2C34

According to Asus PC Probe My Volts:

+12V = 12.224
+5V = 5.053
+3.3V = 4.08 (Reports as - something in BIOS I read this is an error with my mobo)
Vcore = 1.392

I would not say it's power... USB takes 500ma.
Not exactly a lot...

Have you turned off "Automatically Reboot in case of BSOD" in the advanced system properties?
If not, do it now - Hopefully it will give you a blue screen instead of just rebooting.

Are there newer drivers for the card?
Try getting newer ones - It only occured after getting the card - One would assume it's a driver issue.

Hmm, just had my system reboot, while playing BF2142 and the card had just been taken out, But BF2142 is mega buggy, however it seems to happen when I minimize/maximize a few times in games as well if the tv card is recording.

I tried what you said and got a blue screen of death, but as it made no sense to me i had to reboot

Take said Blue Screen - Note it down - Stick into google. ;)
(And paste it here)

The blue screen is the indication of what is actually wrong.

Its probably 80% a drivers issue.

The Problem seems to be caused by the following file: bdacap.sys

I would say 99% a drivers issue.

Do you know what device is using bdcap.sys as a driver?
I would expect it to be your TV Card.
(Check in Device Manager, or check the drivers install package for them)

If it is - Get new drivers from the manafacturer and/or get a different TV card.

What MS say:
CAUSE
These errors may be caused by one or more of the following:
• Hardware failure (memory, processor, or motherboard).
• Anti-virus software that is running on your computer.
Drivers installed by third-party software.
Tried disabling AV whilst running the TV card apps too?
(Worth a try, would be a workaround at best though)

Maybe someone else knows a setting of the TV card that would reduce these...
Been on the manafacturers forums and searched for 0x50?

Yup - its the drivers for your TV card that are causing the issue.

You could try running a Win2k build for your TV watching/recording...
(On a wee machine)

Any updated drivers on the site?
Been to the manafacturers site?
Or you just not bothered to get it fixed?

I have the latest MSI Drivers, with the MCE patches sugested, they have nothing newer for me to use, And I want to use it with MCE So I dunno what to Do....

You tried checking the manafacturers forums for anyone else who's had this type of problem?

Or emailed the manafacturers themselves?

Asides from trying different applications to view the TV, or record instead of the ones you have been using... (May help but doubt it)
