Should see you good for a while ;). In no particular order btw. Bristol actually has a lot of very good restaurants!

I've just edited my post - all of the ones I've ended with a * I've been to, the others I just know of/have been recommended (the head chef from Prosecco was on Gordon Ramasay's F Word recently for instance and it's a family run business, though apparently very hard to get a booking).

It depends what food and atmosphere you want really. Based on your 'qwerky' taste Mud Dock, The Albion, Sands, The Sausage Factory and Byzantium are all pretty cool. All independently run as far as I'm aware too. Byzantium in particular is *very* well decorated - should be some photos on their website I imagine - and Sands is underground in an old cellar.

One of my personal favourites is Zero Degrees. It's a microbrewery so they have good ales on tap and they do good pizzas/1kg pots of mussels for around the £10 mark.

The ones I haven't mentioned are a bit more 'classier' or normal.

I've also heard of this but never been - heard it's very good and it's always packed so it gets my vote too.

Decent restaurants in bristol?

There's also that Asian place by colston hall. That's awesome in there. Found it Budokan

+1 for GBK, went there last night and it was really nice, though almost £8 for a burger and salad, but don't forget it's much nicer meat (angus) than most places. Pretty handy for me too since i'm a stones throw from Park St.

A great (and very reasonably priced) italian is at the top of whiteladies, it's called Piazza di Roma, definitely worth going once. Refreshingly, the portions are large enough for you to struggle finishing!

Also been to San Carlo, which was amazingly nice, but expect to pay quite a bit. Good for a special occassion though, definitely would not reccommend on a budget!

Heard good things about Zizzis too, though have never been since it's usually quite busy.

La Tasca just off the clifton triangle is nice, you can get some very good deals on food. They did an all you can eat tapas for £10 each last time I went there, no catches.

Wagamama is nice, but a tad overrated for me, have not been to a good chinese/japanese restaurant yet, though haven't tried many.

Had a lovely indian at a small place just opposite illusions on the clifton triangle (sorry can't remember the name), the peshwari naan was to die for.

Hope that helps!

The absolute winner. Book a table and make sure it's downstairs. Loads of atmosphere and good portions of incredible food.

Compare something like Cafe Rouge and GBK with Sergio’s, and Sergio’s whomps it on every ground. One of my favourite restaurants.

Good food can also be found at The Picture House on Whiteladies, but it is quite expensive. Same goes for Fishers in Clifton.

I can't recommend Sergio's enough.

I concur, especially La Tasca.

The best Indian I have been to was the Taj Rah in Clifton. Right next to the excellent Pizza Provinciale.

Think about going to the Glassboat (surprised it hasn't been mentioned) - fantastic food and romantic if you're taking the missus. Try a Frisky Bison cocktail. Vodka, apple juice and cucumber. Went there with such a funny crowd on the night of the Olympic ceremony and we were watching it on an iPad at the end of the table. Strange night that was.

Avoid Son Carlos (Son or San) I don't remember.
Good food if you aren't concerned about plastic in your meal, and the service/manager were out right rude.
Our xmas reservations there were cancelled as a result.

I recommend La Campangnuola, a little italian restaurant with great people, great food and a great humble feel. It also doubles up as my first date restaurant, the owners know my face by now :p

+1 for the saffron, one of my friends had a non-restaurant related problem with some of the staff there but that's irrelevant!

Haha, thanks for quoting me bsoltan.

Glassboat are actually one of our clients now and I'd recommend there too - eaten there a few times and have a table of 6 booked for next week as well.

If you go to the Glassboat then I'd also recommend booking a table at the Milk Thistle for post-meal drinks (don't go before else you'll be wasted). It's a 5 minute walk away and a really cool cocktail 'bar'. You can only book tables up until 9pm else you'll just have to try your luck.

Also worth a mention is The Lido, also one of our clients and the same owner and head chef. Depending on your other plans you could tie that in with a swim and massage else it's still a unique dine even if you don't use the other facilities. Or maybe just go there to use the facilities on Sunday. Their breakfasts are pretty epic.

Feel free to trust me if you need any specific advice.

Where are you staying?

If you're after a post-meal drink location, chilled and avoiding the tesosterone filled students, try the 'hyde and co' speak easy bar, was in there last Saturday for the first time and it'd be awesome for taking the misses!

Despite the sometimes cold feeling, the food at San Carlo is absolutely excellent in my experience. It does feel more like a place to take a business partner than a romantic one though.

Graze, just off queens square is awesome. They do a fantastic steak with delicious mash. Quite trendy, great food, and actually not that pricey.

Really? Graze is a bit meh imo, just an after work drinks haunt. Went there for Sunday lunch once and the service was terrible. They've even messed up drinks orders for us before. But then I do attract bad service so probably just me :p.
