Hey folks,

So, it's the anniversary of my wife and I deciding to get shackled together this Friday and I need a nice restaurant to go out to in Nottingham.

We rarely treat ourselves much, so cost isn't particularly a factor - I just want it to be an enjoyable and tasty evening. Type of cuisine doesn't matter, but I think I'd like it to be a relaxed, intimate atmosphere where a glass of wine (or 4) wouldn't go amiss.

Crack on!

Petit Paris might be right up your alley! Quite a cosy, romantic restaurant, upstairs on upper parliament street; good quality food but isn't TOO fancy or prententious. Bistrot Pierre also does good french but that's more of a hustle and bustle atmosphere sometimes.

Good indians there is Laguna and Memsaab, me and the missus go to Chutney a lot, on the same street but it's gone a bit down in quality recently.

I'd probably say petit paris fits the bill of what you're after best. Other people's suggestions may be bettter though.

for an authentic indian we love Mogul-e-Azam opposite theatre royal
italian try Amores in Beeston (off there next week)
i've heard chops steakhouse in lacemarket is good if you fancy a steak
chinese mr manns in wollaton

I've been to Petit Paris in the past and the food wasn't particularly good, the starters were very salty, the salads over oiled and the mains a bit lac lustre really... but then, it is inexpensive.

Personally I'd go to Harts, nice bar to relax in before you meal, then walk over to the restaurant for some of the best food north of London. My black pudding starter was incredible, near perfect in every way, the venison was exquisite. Excellent wine choice when I went too.

Not cheap but worth it, expect to pay ~£200 for two people having a three course meal and wine.

Mr Manns simply doesn't fit the requirements, sure it's a nice enough Chinese but it's large scale middle of the road dining.

Harts is a class above the best and worth every penny, especially if it's an overdue treat!

...hell I even went to Harts once with a woman I didn't want to go with, the food was that good I enjoyed it nonetheless! :D

There is a restaurant called "French living", on King street. Very good food, nice quiet atmosphere. Should be ideal for what you're after. It's been a while since I was there, but expect to pay around £20 for a main course.

This closed down earlier in the year.

Hart's would only be £100 a head if you were having a £100 bottle of champers between you, it's more like £50 a head I'd say on average.

I think my starter was ~£15, main was around £25 and pudding maybe £10-15, couple of bottles between us ~£50. And no, I didn't just go for the expensive stuff! ;)

Harts - though I've heard mixed things
World Service - ok, went there recently
Sat Bains - never been, only starred restaurant in Notts
1877 - again it's ok, I thought it was a little expensive for what it was but make sure you get a good spot upstairs

Personally I wouldn't go to Amores in Beeston, I wasn't impressed and the prices were too high.

"World Service" does look somewhat interesting, though I think "Sat Bains" might be pushing the boat out a little - I don't think either of us would be particularly comfortable in that type of ultra-gastronomic environment (and we're not loaded! :D).
