Can anyone recommend a reasonable restaurant in central London in the area bounded by Trafalgar Sq, Waterloo, London Bridge and Mansion House?

Meeting some mates next week for a bite to eat. Will be semi casual and a decent wine list would help.

Savoy Grill next to the office is a bit too much, looking at about £50-70 a head including wine, coffee and maybe a port.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'd probably say Hawksmoor too - there's a new one by PIcadilly Circus, so close to your target region.

Other than that, you could go to Roast at London Bridge (which is ok) or Arbutus in Soho (which is comparatively very cheap and relaxed for its Michelin star).

Hawksmoor is very good for a UK steakhouse, prob best I have been to in this country, still a way short of ones in the US though

Hawksmoor is very good as mentioned as is bread street kitchen (Gordon Ramsay's latest restaurant in one new change). Took clients there last week and we were all impressed, I particularly enjoyed the bread nd butter pudding.

Cantina at Vinopolis is pretty good and they have a decent selection of wine. We went there for my Grandfather's 88th birthday. He stood on a chair to take a picture and the staff were more worried about him falling off than what the diners were thinking.

Hawksmoor seems to be the default recommendation on here! I havent been myself -- particularly for the reason that £70/head is not going to do it justice!

A bit out of your way but what about Duck and Waffle?

In Soho, Bob Bob Ricard is awesome. Do-able on your budget as long as you don't go mad on the drinks. It's a bit different too.

If you're likely to drink a lot and want somewhere more sociable then maybe check out a 'small playes' place like Polpo or Yalla Yall or Bocco di Lupo? Dunno really..

Sushi Samba has recently opened in heron tower but you'll be lucky to get a table this side of Christmas. I haven't been but it seems very popular at work for taking clients out.

In that area I'd check out Arbutus first to be honest.

Hawksmoor is not doable at that budget really.

If you're into dim sum Yauatcha is a good bet and can easily be done at that budget and is just about in that area.
