Hi - attending the Cricket at Edgbaston; any recommendations for a good evening meal reasonably nearby? None of us are familiar with Birmingham.

Cuisine preferences would be Burger joint, Mexican or an Indian. However leaning against an Indian as we imagine these will be heaving given it's an India cricket match! (Pushkar looks nice but it seems appears to be in the 'fine dining' bracket, unsure whether group of guys wearing cricket shirts and shorts would be welcome lol).

Thanks!

It's a really great concept. It's basically a good pub with an indian restaurant hidden inside. It's a couple of blocks away from the main city centre (bull ring) so it shouldn't be rammed. Plus indians don't tend to eat in indian restaurants often.

Original patty men is awesome but you can't book, so you might be waiting a while. Are you going on a weekend? How many of you are there? Are you happy to jump in a cab or is walking the only option?

Indian food is awesome in Birmingham and it would seem a shame to miss out! So much choice for everyone's taste and budget!

More info and then can recommend further!

There are a few Desi pubs around the place now. Hen and Chickens in the jewellery quarter is my favourite!

Friend of mine went to Pushkar's, next to the Jurys Inn IIRC, and he said he paid about £11 for the curry !

I think you guys have nailed it with these two suggestions. Just the type of place we were after. Wholesome Indian food in an informal setting we can be in and out within an hour and a half.

Kolkata Lounge is the best (reasonably priced!) indian in brum imo

The menu here looks excellent too!

I've been to Pushkar numerous times. I wouldn't call it especially smart, I think you'd get away with those clothes (just!). It's very nice if you do decide to go :)

This is off the cards. A few of the guys going poo-pooed it :( - menu looks interesting a bit different to the usual Indian, I would have liked to go.

You could have a look at "Akbars" on the Hagley road. Within walking distance of the cricket ground. I've always enjoyed eating there, i wouldn't say it's as good as the Bradford restaurant they have (that would be hard to beat lol). But it's a lot different from most Indian restaurants and well worth a try.

FYI Lots of 'Indian' restaurants and run by members of the Bangladeshi community.
