Resting between exercise?

I have a repeat pattern with my fitness where I get addicted to it quite easily but get the same issues.

I do high intensive workouts daily for 6-7 days a week for a few months then get an illness and can't get rid of cold for a month.

So if I was to rest in between, is it better to do every other day or do 3-4 days and rest for 4-3 days?

Alternatively, do I need to just eat more to compensate?

Any advise is appreciated as I want to get out of this loop.

Whilst there is some evidence to link over-exercising with reduced immune system function, there are a fair few factors that could be at play here (including, but not limited to):

- you might just be susceptible to colds
- your hygiene habits might need addressing
- your commute/work puts you at risk
- you aren't sleeping enough
- you aren't eating enough
- your diet is rubbish/not sufficiently diverse and healthy...

There is nothing wrong with working out 6-7 times a week provided you take care of yourself... But you have to take care of the above as a minimum.

Depending on your desired outcomes, working out 3-4 times a week might actually get you there faster, anyway...

I don't get a great deal of colds normally, I've gone a few years without a serious cold before.

My hygiene is fine thanks, I wash my hands in normal situations. hand gel for places that don't look clean even after washing.

I drive to work and mainly sit in an office on my own.

Sleeping I've never needed too much but when I did my exercise I was in bed bŷ 10-11pm and up at 6am for exercise.

I eat quite diversely and healthily, occasional McDonald's but nothing too bad. Maybe not eating enough, I only drink water at work, salad and pasta for lunch with two bananas.
