Recently acquired an older mountain bike (Claud Butler) for FREE.

Its not in too bad condition considering its been sat outside for a while, Wanting to economically restore it as cheap as possible as a "Backup bike"

My question is, There's numerous bolts and including the Steam which has surface rust on them, Is there a solution that i can buy to simply remove/dissolve the surface rust in which i can then respray said parts?

I'm not looking for a professional finish here, its a FREE bike that i just want to make look cosmetically better! ,Function wise it works fine.

Frame paintwork is fine, Just needs a clean.

I do plan to completely replace the tyres/tubes and pads with brand new as they are cheap enough.

appreciate the answer on the solution/Rust removed.

The idea is to get rid of as much of the rust as humanly possible with things like wire brushes, drill bit wire brush type attachments, wet and dry auto-repair sandpaper designed for metal. Start with fine grits like P600 for very light surface rust and use stronger grits if needed. Then after getting as much rust off as possible use a rust killer or rust converter solution, I use Jenolite products.

The better the job you do at this stage, the much less likely the rust will return. Or at least slow it down considerably.

Evapo-Rust is what you want. Will get surface rust gone quickly and effectively.

Liquid for immersion, Gel for things that are either too large or not suitable for submerging into liquid.
