Hi,
I've just restored a Macbook Pro using the Command+R option during boot, and selecting the 2nd option.

The Macbook finished installing OSX Lion, but is exactly the same! I thought the restore would bring it back to factory settings!

What did I do wrong?

By default it'll do an archive and install, maintaining your sessions.

To clean build it use Disk Utility to wipe/reformat the partition first.

Ah right thanks.
Seeing as I do not have a OSX Disc, will it still just download the install files from Apple via the Restore method after wiping the HDD?

Edit: Erased the Macintosh HD (wouldnt let me erase the top one due to UNABLE TO UNMOUNT DISC), it's now downloading the files...

the 'top one' is the recovery partition which isnt actually a 'proper' recovery partition IMO. it contains troubleshooting software and the ability to go online for help or to download the OSX installation like your currently doing

total nightmare in my experience. if you lose connection it makes you start again from the start :/ or atleast that was the case when lion first came out
