I backed up my old Vista Home Premium PC before selling it specs;

Q6600 @ 3ghz
4GB RAM
Gigabyte P35-DS3L P35 Express
Gigabyte 8800GT
Samsung 500GB SATA
Pioneer DVD+-RW Drive

Would I be able to restore it to this machine without any problems;

Q6600
8GB RAM
Asus P5Q Pro P45 Express
XpertVision 8800GT
Hitachi PK7500 500GB
Optiac DVD+-RW Drive

Or is it going to require a reinstall also is there any repair option with Vista like XP?

If your motherboard drivers are installed on the backup then it's going to cause more problems than it's worth but you could try starting up in safe mode and uninstalling the different drivers that may work.

Similar system, so it should work..you'll want to sort out the drivers obviously.

I managed to image a socket 478 system from an ATI chipset to an Intel one without problems. Just removed the ATI and other old drivers, and installed Intel LAN\chipset and the audio driver for the new motherboard.

i'd imagine it'll work fine, but it's not recommended

true image echo + universal restore might be more successful

It should work as the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) is used differently in Vista than XP. So you can make images and put them on any PC out there (as long as it's good enough to run Vista).

The problem is licencing and what I've said only applies to Enterprise licencing.

It should, theoretically, still work though you will have to re-activate it.
